Joining us

Applying for a job is a big commitment so we want to make joining ACC a simple, easy to understand process where you know what's happening every step of the way. We've outlined the key aspects of our recruitment and selection process to give you a handy insight into what's involved when applying for a role with us.

 

You’ve applied, now what?

So you've found the role that's a match for your skills, goals and ambitions. You’ve submitted an application online and you will have received a confirmation email so you know we’ve got your application. We know how important it is to be kept informed so our promise to you is that we aim to contact you within 10 working days of the advertisement’s closing date.

 

Our Recruitment process

We like to keep things as straightforward as we can so our process usually consists of shortlisting, an interview and pre-employment checks such as credit and reference checks. Sometimes we’ll call if we need to clarify something in your application or want to know a bit more about you – it’s just another opportunity for us to get to know you and vice versa.

Interviews are definitely not a one-sided affair - we approach the interview as an opportunity for both parties to ask questions, bring support, gain insights and assess if the 'fit' is right for both of us.

Your interview will include:

  • An overview of ACC, and more detailed information about the role
  • Questions about your background, skills and experience
  • A range of competency based questions


If you're shortlisted for a role with us we will call you to arrange an interview time. All the details about the interview will be provided at this time, and it's your chance to ask any questions about how to best prepare yourself. If you're not successful at making it to the shortlist stage, you'll receive an email from us to advise you of this.

We have behaviours that we look for when we’re interviewing people and these are the characteristics that align with our values and bring them to life. If you’re invited to an interview, we’ll be exploring how you have demonstrated these behaviours either in your current role or previous ones so be prepared to share some great examples of how you’ve displayed these qualities.

Some roles will require you to complete skills based assessments or ability assessments as part of the selection process. Most assessments are designed to be completed online, however if you need to complete it at ACC, we'll let you know. You're also welcome to request feedback on your assessments.

If you're not a New Zealand resident

If you're currently overseas but keen to become part of the ACC team, that's great news. To join us, you must be a permanent New Zealand resident or have the appropriate work permit. More detailed information can be found on Work in New Zealand - New Zealand Immigration.
